SKYlofts
Completed 2014
Designed & built in collaboration with Andrew J. Spatz Associates
skyLOFTS is a 7,200 sgft, 4-unit, live/work building that is surrounded by midrise residential and commercial office buildings. Located in the heart of downtown Evanston, the project seeks to establish its place amidst the towers while creating space at a scale that is more attuned to smaller business and residential users. The building hovers over grade, touching the ground lightly; to allow for covered outdoor space, parking and on-site water retention on the ground level. The structure itself actually serves as large rain collector, funneling stormwater down to a large perforated cistern system & rock garden, where it is stored until it can naturally leach back into the sandy soil. The live\work units above are bisected by a large slot which allows light and air to penetrate the more private spaces. Large glass curtain walls dominate the front and rear façades of the building, flooding the soaring, double-height public spaces within with expansive views of the city. The three-office/bedroom, two bath unit interiors are modern, open and flexible to accommodate a variety of uses.
